Peru: Day 74 (Ill-disposed Iglesias Idolatry)

So apparently, Enrique Iglesias is still making music. And apparently, people think that it is good. I thought he was gone like N´Sync...Bye, Bye, Bye. But alas, no. And so, I sat in Bembos, eating my Bembos burger, listening to the soft and sultry, and sometimes sensual singing sensation, Enrique Iglesias. There was lots of him, I think. It seemed like every song. I felt nauseous.
We had camp day yesterday with the church. It was a day off from school, and so we joined the church in a trip to another small ´resort´. What I didn´t realize until the morning of, was that all of the "Immanuel Biblia Iglesia" (our church) from all of Lima were attending this event. We rented the entire resort, and there was probably something like 2000 people there. Lots. We played some soccer, ate some food, had a pretty good time.
Also. I am pretty sure I paid for the most expensive taxi ride ever. S./ 204.00 (ish). I might have left my wallet in the taxi when I got out. I had a suit and groceries in my hand, and I am now about 98.35% sure that the taxi driver is not going to bring me my wallet or money back. You might say darn it. I did too.
From what I could tell, Enrique got the number 5 spot on the countdown.

Peru: Day 70 (Hot Hot Heat)

The second round will soon be starting in my epic battle against the sun. So far, we stand at Sun: 1, Myself: 0. But I am coming back with a great vengeance this time. I´m gonna let him hit me a couple of times, getting him looking for the quick KO, and then in a storm turn around with a couple of quick upper cuts. The sun has actually been sitting off in a corner for the last week, up until about now. There haven´t been too many hot sunny days. That is not to say that it hasn´t been warm. I´m still wearing sandals and tees almost everyday. Very Occasionally, have I had to wear a sweater at night. We have begun Spring here, and so the weather will be getting warmer and warmer. I will be uncostuming more and more garments as the days move forward. I haven´t gone to the zoo yet, but at some point I will make it there. Plans here change often and sometimes birth from other plans or no plans. And that birth happens in no time at all. Instant birth.
I have participated in a few fun festivities lately. I went to monday night soccer this past monday. A lot of fun. We went to this centre where there were 8 soccer fields. The soccer fields are about 4 feet apart from each other, and are completely enclosed in netting. The net goes all around the field and is 40+ feet high. The field was slightly smaller than a regular field, and we played on artificial turf. I made a grand discovery, that being inducive of my being out of shape. Yikes.
The saturday previous we went to the youth leader, Veronica´s, birthday party. It was black and white style which meant that I had to go shopping. I bought a pretty sweet white shirt and some massive black pants. It was a fun party, food, games, and more. Lots of fun.
Yesterday, Mary and Becky and I went to an English book sale in Miraflores. I picked up 4 books, which all seem pretty interesting. Berlin Diary, The Condor and the Cow, Twentieth Century English Prose, and Learn Spanish in Three Months. So, they should provide for some good reading in the next two months.
I am officially three days away from being halfway into this trip. Day 73 is on Wednesday, thus marking the exact halfway point of my trip until Christmas. I return home on the 23rd of December, Day 146. Crazy how fast time is going by. Every week seems to just zip past in a couple of days. I work 8-4, relax after work, or go out with friends, or whatever. Weekends include church, trips to Miraflores, hanging out with the church youth, etc. Every day drops out of my hands almost as soon as I can grab ahold of it. So insane. Every day is full of working with kids, catching buses, walking around aimlessly, walking around with purpose, not walking, sitting, playing guitar, devotions, eating, making food to eat, etc etc. So full, so busy, but so enjoyable.
Today I cooked a crab. It was S./ 3.00, or like a buck. It was tasty.
